The fortunes of Delhi Capitals(DC) and Mumbai Indians(MI) have imaged each other so far in IPL 2023. Both brigades are yet to open their accounts Capitals have lost three out of three and Mumbai two out of two. Through a combination of injuries and personal reasons, both have struggled with player availability. They’ve neither figured out their best XIs( or XIIs) nor have readymade solutions in sight.

Capitals’ biggest worry is probably their opening pair. David Warner has scored two half- centuries in three games but his runs have come at a pedestrian strike rate of117.03. Prithvi Shaw, on the other hand, has lasted just 17 balls in threeoutings. However, he couldn’t only mask Warner’s struggles but also set a platform for the middle order, If Shaw gets going.
Mumbai’s primary headache is their bowling attack. In Jasprit Bumrah‘s absence, they were heavily dependent on Jofra Archer. But he too experienced discomfort in his right elbow and missed their previous game, against Chennai Super Kings. That has robbed their bowling unit of invaluable experience.

After Capitals’ latest defeat, their head coach Ricky Ponting called for” soul- searching”. Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma said,” The senior guys need to step up, starting with me.” The silver lining is at least one of them will open their account on Tuesday.

Team news – question mark over Archer’s fitness

There has been no official update about the extent of Archer’s discomfort. Given it’s the right elbow, which had kept him out in the past as well, Mumbai are unlikely to rush him back.

For Capitals, Khaleel Ahmed has a niggle and may not be available for this game. They will also be without Mitchell Marsh, who has gone back to Australia for his wedding and had also missed their last game.

If Khaleel is not fully fit, Capitals could bring in Chetan Sakariya. If they bat first, Shaw features in the first XI. In the second innings, Mukesh Kumar could come in as Impact Player and replace him. Vice-versa if they bowl first.

With Arshad Khan conceding 14 runs per over across two games, Mumbai could consider leaving him out for Sandeep Warrier. For their Impact Player, they can use Tilak Varma and Kumar Kartikeya.

Now let’s talk about yesterday’s match RCB vs LSG

Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Lucknow Super Giants
Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Lucknow Super Giants

What a thriller!! Chinnaswamy didn’t have any wickets safe and RCB felt their bowling curse was about to haunt them again. This game had everything, Virat Kohli’s knock in the powerplay, Faf’s 115m six, Glenn Maxwell’s return to form. And that’s just the first innings… Chasing, LSG lost Mayer for a duck as Siraj clean-bowled him in the first over with a superb delivery. Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya also fell cheaply as debutant Wayne Parnell was having fun.

LSG were struggling at the end of the powerplay, and needed some big boy power from Marcus Stoinis to bring them back into the contest. The big Australian took on Harshal Patel and Karn Sharma, smashing big sixes down the ground as he brought up his first half-century of the season. Still the game was in limbo. Stoinis got out and then KL Rahul also went. But 16 crore man Nicholas Pooran went out and showed the world why so many teams break the bank for him! He hit seven sixes and four fours in his innings, hitting almost anything on his pads to bring up his fastest fifty of the season (15 balls).

Pooran couldn’t hold on, but Ayush Badoni filled in and hit a big shot. He would have certainly won the game with a six over fine leg in the final over, but he pulled his bat back onto the stumps and was hit-wicket. The hosts continued their struggle by dismissing their two tailenders cheaply. And then, if not for Harshal’s unsuccessful attempt to run out the non-striker, the game would have gone to the Super Over as well.

Harshal Patel to Avesh Khan, byes, 1 run, what a fumble!! This was a dipping low full-toss, Avesh Khan had a swing and a miss. Missed the off-stump by a whisker. Bishnoi ran like a 100m sprinter to get down the other end but DK, who taken his right glove off, fumbles at the worst possible time. He throws it but by then even batter Avesh is in his crease. He throws his helmet to the ground in celebration. LSG have pulled off a thriller!!
